Philomena Block

Philomena Block is a Los Angeles-based actor and writer originally from the beachside town of Santa Cruz, CA. At 14, she absolutely slayed her first 10 minutes of stand-up, and has continued her brand of hilarious and heartbreaking comedy ever since.

Philomena has degrees in Musical Theatre and Psychology, and studied improv at The Groundlings. Before moving to Los Angeles, she worked as a regional theatre actor in the Bay Area and Sacramento. Favorite credits include Avenue Q (Berkeley Playhouse), Guys & Dolls (Jewel Theatre), and As You Like It (Davis Shakespeare). As a Cancer sun, she utilized her cardinal sign placement to serve as the head writer for two sketch comedy groups in NorCal. As a playwright, Philomena wrote “What is Bae?”, a modern-day sex-ed play with puppets, and co-wrote the play “SuperMa’am”, the story of a middle-aged female superhero, which won Best Script at the 2023 Big Idea One Act Play Festival.

Though she’s a theatre girly at heart, you might know her from doing sketch comedy with the former Pack team Kissyface, or from stand-up and character shows throughout the city. When not working on the stage or page, Philomena can be found sewing costumes or making puppets, staring longingly at the ocean, and posting “brave” comedy videos online.

Philomena is currently seeking theatrical and commercial representation.
