Karla Espino is a comedy writer, director, performer, and plant. Her writing and filmmaking is mostly grounded with absurdist tendencies- centered around dating, mental health, and her Puerto Rican culture. She grew up in a small town in Massachusetts that you’ve probably never heard of, graduated from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA with a BA in Video Production, and since then has relocated to Los Angeles where she endures the emotional rollercoaster that is living an artist’s dream. She has been featured on WHOHAHA for her comedy short, “Naptime”, been recognized by Women in Film and the 48 Hour Film Project as 2020 Woman Filmmaker of the Year, and most recently has been selected to screen her film, “Vagina Sommelier” at the 2022 Austin Comedy Film Festival. She has no professional training, besides her thousands of hours on set, but plans to take a class at some point.
