STUDENT TESTIMONIALS:

"Eric Moneypenny's sketch class gives you an entire reference guide to writing sketch comedy in every format and medium. I promise you will not get the kind of tools and specific insight that this class is offering anywhere else." -Brennan E., class alum

“The first thing I noticed when I started Eric Moneypenny's class was how passionate he was about teaching sketch comedy. It wasn't somebody just teaching for a paycheck, it was somebody who cares about the art and setting up future sketch comedy writers for success going forward.” -Nina C., class alum

“Masterclass of Sketch! Eric Moneypenny's sketch comedy writing class breaks down the form into its simplest parts, and gives you a useful, sketchy vocabulary to understand the concepts - his lessons are extremely detailed and thoughtful. I wish I had taken this class years ago, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.” - Gabe U., class alum

”Sketch 1 with Eric Moneypenny was truly invaluable. His teaching style is focused and generous, and he’s fully engaged throughout every session. Eric offers thoughtful, actionable feedback and shares deep industry insight that goes well beyond the basics. This class is a must.” -Tonia M., class alum

"Eric Moneypenny is truly a fantastic sketch teacher, he teaches you to write to your voice. He offers great notes that are always about bringing the best idea forward and just the amount of information in his e-mails alone is worth signing up for class. I felt like my creativity was re-ignited during his class and I made some great connections with fellow comedians who are hysterical. It's a great community environment, and Eric is a fantastic teacher with fresh knowledge that applies to the current state of media and entertainment." - Tom P, class alum

"This experience was really incredible and so energizing. I can see why (fellow student) came back. It was a total blast and just lights a creative fire under you." -Christian G., class alum

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT SKETCH 1

-Do I have to bring in a Sketch on the 1st Day of Class?
No, you don’t.

-If I have to miss class, can I make it up?
For online classes, you won’t be able to make it up unless you live near Los Angeles and are available to go to an In-Person class. However, for online students, you will receive the info via on how to complete the assignment for the next week’s class. And you will also have the opportunity to have your assignment from any class you missed read aloud in the next class you’re at (if you finished the assignment.) We do not record online classes unless the students from class unanimously give their permission. For in-person class, you can make up that week’s class either in-person or online if you’re available at the other times. Class is designed in a way that you shouldn’t get too far behind if you miss a class or two.

-If I have to drop the class due to life/work/scheduling, would I have to pay full price to take it again when I’m free?
No, you wouldn’t. The Pack can hold your credit, and you can join in a future session when you’re available, at no additional cost.

-I want to take this class again. Will I need to pay full price?
It’s very common that students choose to take class again, so contact your teacher via email for a discount code for a full retake.

-Can I sign up for Sketch 2 while I’m still in Sketch 1?
Yes. Classes at The Pack typically start around the same time every 2 months. For example, you might be finishing up Sketch I, but Sketch 2 is starting only a week or two later. If you want to sign up for Sketch 2 while you have time remaining in Sketch 1 class, you can do that.

-What is a typical class like?
For the multi-week classes, Week 1 is a lecture where the students receive and go over the well-reviewed document about Sketch Writing. For the remainder of the weeks, class will read their sketches, get notes from the teacher, and have a short lecture about the next week’s assignment. You will also do exercises to come up with ideas for your next week’s assignment before leaving your current week’s class.

-Do I need to purchase screenwriting software to write scripts for this class?
No. There are free and free trial versions online of various screenwriting programs that will get you through class. One that our students seem to enjoy is Writer Solo, which is free and available on both Mac and PC.

-Will I have to read my whole sketch out loud and play all the characters?
No. While it’s fine to read a character in the sketch you wrote, the other students will be able to help read your sketch out loud too. Like a table read.

-I signed up for the In-Person class. Why is my 1st class online?
The first In-Person class is held over Zoom because it’s mostly a lecture. So, to save our LA students some time sitting in traffic and gas, that 1st week is done over Zoom. The only times In-Person classes are held on Zoom are Class #1, or in the rare case of the teacher getting sick.

-I signed up for the Online class, but I didn’t receive email confirmation or the Zoom link?
The Zoom link is typically sent out no later than 4 hours before the first class. Usually the night before. If you haven’t received it via email, the most likely thing is that the PayPal email address that you signed up with is different than your everyday email address. Or, somebody else (friend or a loved one) signed you up for this class. Sign-up confirmations are typically sent out automatically when you sign up. To make sure we have the your correct email if it’s different than the PayPal email address, don’t hesitate to email classes@packtheater.com.

-I want to take class, but it’s not currently offered at days/times I’m available.
If you would like to request a certain day or time, email classes@packtheater.com. However, this is dependent on the teacher’s availability as well.

-I’m in the In-Person class. It’s LA, is there anywhere to park?
The Pack is in a Shopping Center, so there’s ample free parking available in the Parking Lot out front. For those who take the train, we are right across the street from the Vermont/Sunset Metro Station.

-Where is The Pack? I’m at the shopping center and can’t find it!
1615 N. Vermont Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90027. If you can’t find it, we’re just to the left of the Boxing Gym. And a few doors to the right of The Clubhouse. There are two different theaters inside 1615 N. Vermont (The Pack and WGIS). Sketch classes are typically held in the Big Green Room, which is down at the end of the Hallway. If your Pack class is scheduled to be in a WGIS class space, that would be a separate entrance next door to the left of 1615 N. N. Vermont Ave.
